2016 Harp Events

Sunday, February 7th from 2-4 p.m. at the home of Mary Bouley, central Tucson. SOPHIA members will play love songs in solo or duet format in honor of Valentine's Day. Refreshments will be served. Please wear red or pink for this fun event!

Tuesday, March 29th from 7-9:30 p.m. Two back-to-back workshops with UK Masters of the Harp Grainne Hambly and Billy Jackson! Topics: "The Music of O'Carolan" and "Accompanying Other Instruments". Cost: one workshop for $40 or two for $70. Location: the home of Trish Harris. Deadline for workshop payment is March 7th.

Wednesday, March 30th from 7:30-9:30 p.m.--House concert featuring Grainne Hambly and Billy Jackson. Cost: $20 per ticket. Seating is limited, so advance reservations are strongly encouraged. Email Vanessa at to reserve house concert tickets or for more information.

Saturday, April 16th from 1:30-3:30 p.m.---SOPHIA's formal spring recital! Location: Udall Park meeting room. Play solo harp pieces in front of a caring, appreciative audience. Refreshments will be served following the performances. Performance space and seating are limited. Please email Vanessa at to reserve a space.

Tuesday, October 4th--private lessons in jazz and classical for pedal and lever harpists with harp virtuoso Park Stickney. He was also be performing in a house concert at 6:30 p.m. Park will be playing his own jazz compositions, standards, and classical pieces with a jazz twist. Refreshments will be served and Park's CD's/sheet music will be sold at intermission. Seating is limited and advance tickets are $15 and will be sold on a first come/first served basis. Wednesday, October 5th--private lessons continue in the daytime with Park. Contact Vanessa at to reserve a time slot. Friday, December 2 at 7 p.m.--Rachel Knight's doctoral recital at Holsclaw Hall featuring pieces by Gliere, Glinka, Godefroid, Hindemith and Salzedo. After the performance we will meet at Pastiche Restaurant for dessert and coffee.

Monday, December 19th at 4 p.m.--Christmas event at Winterhaven. We will play Christmas songs from Tunes to Go as an informal ensemble, share a potluck supper and enjoy the beautiful light displays of the neighborhood!
